Joining and Voting
When a friend or travel companion invites you to participate in a group voting session for an upcoming trip, the process of joining and casting your votes is designed to be quick and enjoyable. You do not need to be an expert trip planner or spend hours researching, you simply swipe through curated activities and indicate which ones appeal to you.
How to Join a Voting Room
There are several ways to join a voting room, and all of them are designed to be as frictionless as possible.
Joining via Shared Link
The most common way to join is through a link shared by the trip organizer. When someone creates a voting room, they receive a unique link that they can share through any messaging platform, whether that is iMessage, WhatsApp, email, or social media.
When you tap on this shared link, it opens the voting room directly. If you have the MyPerfectStay app installed on your device, the link opens in the app. If you do not have the app installed, the link opens in your web browser, allowing you to participate without downloading anything.
This browser-based option makes it easy for everyone in your travel group to participate, regardless of whether they typically use travel planning apps or what type of device they own.
Joining via Room Code
If you have the MyPerfectStay app installed, you can also join a voting room by entering a 6-character room code. The organizer can share this code separately from the link.
To join with a code, open the app and navigate to the voting section. Look for the Join Room option and enter the code provided by your organizer. The code is case-insensitive, so you do not need to worry about uppercase or lowercase letters.
Once you enter the complete code, the app automatically looks up the room and shows you the trip details before you officially join.
No Account Required
One of the most convenient aspects of group voting is that you can participate without creating a MyPerfectStay account. If you join through a web browser link, you can enter a display name and start voting immediately. This removes friction for travel companions who might not want to create yet another app account just to help plan a trip.
If you do have an account and are logged in, your votes are automatically associated with your profile, which can be helpful for tracking your voting history across multiple trips.
Understanding the Voting Room
Before you start voting, you will see information about the trip including the destination, travel dates, and who else has joined the voting session. This context helps you understand what kind of trip you are helping to plan.
The voting room also shows how many activities are in the voting pool and how much time remains before voting closes. This helps you budget your time appropriately, whether you want to vote all at once or spread it out over a few sessions.
The Swipe Voting Interface
Once you begin voting, you enter the swipe interface. Each activity appears as a large card taking up most of your screen. The card displays an attractive photo of the activity, the activity title, key details like duration and price, and the average rating from other travelers.
The interface is intentionally simple because the goal is to capture your gut reaction to each activity. You are not analyzing spreadsheets or comparing complex details. You are simply deciding whether each activity appeals to you.
How to Cast Your Vote
Voting uses an intuitive swipe mechanism that feels natural and engaging.
Swipe Right to Like
If an activity looks interesting and you would enjoy doing it, swipe the card to the right. You will see a heart or approval indicator appear as you swipe. This registers a positive vote for that activity.
Swipe Left to Pass
If an activity does not appeal to you or you are not interested, swipe the card to the left. An X indicator appears as you swipe. This registers that you passed on this activity.
Using the Buttons
If you prefer not to swipe, you can also use the buttons below the activity card. A thumbs-up button on the right registers a like, and a thumbs-down button on the left registers a pass. The result is the same whether you swipe or tap.
Viewing More Details
If you want more information before deciding, you can tap on the activity card to see additional details. This might include a fuller description, photos, reviews, or specifics about what the activity includes. After reviewing, you can return to the voting interface and cast your vote.
Voting Tips for Better Results
To make group voting as effective as possible, keep a few things in mind as you go through the activities.
- Vote based on your genuine preferences. The whole point of group voting is to surface what people actually want. If you vote strategically or try to guess what others want, the results become less useful for everyone.
- Consider the group context. While you should vote honestly, it can help to think about whether an activity would work for the group. If you know half the group gets seasick, that boat tour might not be the best choice even if you personally love sailing.
- Take time to review each activity. The swipe interface is designed to be quick, but that does not mean you need to rush. If you are unsure about an activity, tap to see more details rather than making a snap judgment.
- Complete all your votes. Your preferences only influence the final results if you vote on all activities. Partial voting means your voice is not fully heard, and you might miss voting on activities you would have loved.
Tracking Your Progress
As you vote, a progress indicator shows how many activities you have completed and how many remain. You can see at a glance how close you are to finishing.
If you need to take a break, your progress is saved. You can close the app or browser and return later to pick up where you left off. Just make sure to complete your voting before the deadline set by the organizer.
After You Finish Voting
Once you have voted on all activities, your votes are submitted and counted toward the group results. You will see a confirmation that your voting is complete.
At this point, you can see which other group members have also finished voting and who is still in progress. The results remain hidden until the organizer closes voting, ensuring everyone has equal time to participate without being influenced by seeing early results.
If the organizer has set up reminders, participants who have not completed voting may receive notifications encouraging them to finish before the deadline.
Changing Your Votes
Votes are generally final once you swipe. The system is designed for quick, instinctive responses rather than deliberation. If you accidentally swiped the wrong direction or genuinely need to change a vote, contact the trip organizer who may be able to help or restart the session.
In most cases, though, your initial instinct is valid. The voting process is about preferences, not perfect decisions, and a single swipe in the "wrong" direction will not dramatically alter group results.
